Sofia is the capital of the Balkan country Bulgaria. It is situated in Western Bulgaria, next to Vitosha Mountain. The city’s landmarks reflect more than 2000 years of history, influenced by the Greek, Roman, Ottoman and Soviet times. Sofia has been inhabited since 7000 BC. Being Bulgaria's capital city, Sofia is a hometown of many of the major local universities, cultural and political institutions and commercial companies. Sofia is one of the top 10 best places for start-up business in the world, especially in Information Technologies.

As of 2007, Bulgaria is a member of the European Union. Since then, the country has carried out a number of education reform projects, substantially improving its education quality.
